The premise of the story was good, dealing with a loving couple and euthanasia, but the other main couple, Cam and his wife Allie, were beyond unrealistic. I thoroughly enjoyed "19 Minutes" and "My Sister's Keeper"; I could not put them down and found myself enthralled with the characters and Picoult's writing style. This book however, was a little odd. He cheats on her, she takes him back quite easily and in very minimal time, and he seems a little cocky and annoyed that she would even think of leaving him----pretty unrealistic I would say. It seemed like the whole last part of the book where they got back together was too abrupt and would have been better if it had been more developed but I am not sure because Cam just seemed too full of himself and Allie so pathetic.
Would you kill them if they asked you to. And not only that it makes you question what you believe with Cam, when Mia comes to town. You follow the stories of Jamie and his Wife Maggie who he has killed. To love someone so much you would kill them to stop their pain. Could you face the aftermath. These are the real questions that Mercy brings up. How much do you love your significant other. And I am still unsure if I would be able to do what Jamie did for his dear wife Maggie.
There just really are no words to accurately describe how haunting and good this book is. I can honestly say I wanted to slap Cam a few times but I suppose that it is my point of view as a woman. I recommend you read it, and keep some tissues close. There are a lot of complex emotions in this book and Jodi Picoult manages to roll them out for you in a well woven tapestry of happiness and sadness all rolled into one. If they were dying of something terminal slowly and painfully could you do it. That is an awesome and un-defining kind of love.
And than Cam and Allie the Police Chief and his wife. It makes you question what would you do if you were in Jamie's situation. But within the story we also see how Jamie begins to change, on how his perception of what he did and what he believes he want changes.
I was satisfied with the service and the product overall. It came within a week and was in the shape described. It looked just like new and I got a great deal on it. I will be sure to order from here again.
Picoult always exhibits the thorough amount of research she does for each book that leaves me with greater knowledge on the topic. This was the book that ignited my love for novels by Jodi Picoult. The characters are very likable and Picoult makes it very easy to dip into the different sides of character perspectives. Three Jodi Picoult's later (Salem Falls, Plain Truth, My Sister's Keeper), Mercy is still my favorite. It is a highly controversial issue with three major parts: 1 part romance (and a sexy one at that), 1 part courtroom scene, and 1 part medical discussion. I get a slight nostalgia for the book every time I pass a flower shop - definitely a winning choice. Enjoy :)
I haven't read many book by Jodi, but the few that I have I've truely loved. This book explores so many angles of love and marriage that you will find yourself compairing you or your spouse to one of the characters. As soon as I picked the book up I found it hard to want to or even have to put it down.
